There is teaching technology and there is teaching with technology.
Today we seek out information and knowledge in decidedly new and interchangeable ways, as the information produced in our networked global society doubles every 18 months (International Data Corporation, 2011). This means by 2020 the world will generate 50 times the amount of information it generates today. As a result, the basic assumptions about what we should teach children, how educators should be prepared, and probably most importantly, why we even learn, are in flux. Moreover, the term ‘technology integration’ no longer has contemporary educational meaning, because technology and learning are bound together differently and uniquely in various contexts—it is difficult to conceive of one without the other.
These topics are important and equally challenging. Join me on this journey of exploring both teaching technology and teaching with technology.
